Learn all about the galaxy and beyond by exploring the Codex. A good place to start for beginners to the series.
UDE-1: An ancient and highly volatile form of energy discovered eons ago, not much is known about it's true origins. Believed to be the cause of universal expansion and movement, in its dormant state, it's used as a source of power for most of the galaxy. Little is known about who first discovered the ability to harness it, but it is used to power spacefaring vessels, weapons, power grids, etc. Collector facilities throughout the galaxy harvest the dormant energy and supply it to the various systems and civilizations. A small number of beings in the galaxy can harness the raw form of UDE-1 and “activate” its true power. They can use it to protect themselves from danger and heal others, create energy blades to be used in combat, send out debilitating waves of it, and increase their ability to move at incredible speed. However, unchecked use of raw UDE-1 energy can be damaging to both mind and body.
Order of Ascendancy: When the discovery of UDE-1 energy first occurred, many of the races in the galaxy hadn't yet even contacted any others. Many star systems were cut off by an impassable space. Crude, destructive ways of space travel were only utilized by a select few of the more advanced species and civilizations. However, many now held the power to reach their neighbors for the first time. As you would expect, there was great conflict. Not only were different kingdoms, planets, federations, and species all fighting for the rights to this new power, but a small amount of people were able to tap into it with grave consequence. Worlds were destroyed by these individuals, crazed out of their mind from the unchecked use. Entire species were wiped out in a matter of mere moments. Once they had the taste of endless possibility, they were lost to it.
That is when a group of like-minded UDE-1 users banded together and created guidelines for its use in the raw form. As time went on, a culture formed and grew around these guidelines. New potential controllers were discovered at birth by those trained to detect it and taken from their homes in order to learn the ways of this new order. Not all controllers would be found, and many still would fall to the seduction of great power but gone were the days of isolated individuals left unchecked to cause havoc. They were united by the same beliefs and were called on to help aid the galaxy as it began to grow into a new age.
Since that time, the Order of Ascendancy, as they had become known, were asked to be the arbiters of UDE-1 power throughout the galaxy. They were expected to handle disputes, fight in civil wars, and otherwise be the guardians of a now centralized galaxy spanning coalition known as The Assemblage.
The Order were what turned the tide during the great war with the Kovik Myriad, a dispute that had lasting implications on the state of the entire galaxy. Because of this, as well as their prominent role in history, members of the Order are viewed as quasi-celebrities. The top-level veterans are well known throughout the systems and are either praised or loathed depending on the viewpoint of that area of space. Because of this treatment, many Controllers have become disconnected from society, and feel as though they are above others.
The Assemblage: Comprising of the largest, most influential group of planets and systems located in the deep sectors nearest to the core, The Assemblage is both the governing body and overseer of the entire galaxy. The name can refer to both the governing political party that runs operations, as well as the actual systems that belong to it. The capital system and planet, Lustaroh, is the seat of the government and known throughout the rest of space as the “center of the universe” due to both its importance and it's physical location just outside of the dangerous core.
The Assemblage's primary systems, species, and planets are varied and numbered. These societies have adopted the rules and laws set by the centralized government regarding all aspects of life, including perhaps the largest factor, access to dormant UDE-1 energy. Though the traditions and cultures of these planets and races are still prevalent in their societies, they are ultimately part of a much bigger picture.
Having come out on top during the great galactic size war with the Kovik Myriad over the use of the UDE-1 decades ago, the Assemblage put in place strict guidelines on the use of the power itself, in all forms. The war was caused over the Myriad's insistence that they should have the ability to harness and use the energy any way they saw fit. This included using it as a weapon. The Assemblage felt as though it should only be used for powering peaceful space flight, energy for planets and people, and other non-aggressive uses. After their victory, they forbid anyone in the galaxy from using UDE-1 in a hostile way, including themselves, with the lone exception being the Order when the actions were deemed warranted to defend Assemblage citizens.
Lustaroh is also home to the Order of Ascendancy, who works hand in hand with the Assemblage to ensure that the use of UDE-1 is controlled and regulated.
The Prime Committee: Comprised of the various heads of state from respective systems of the Assemblage, they rule and reside over the people. All humanitarian and military conflicts are decided by the committee, and their ruling on such matters is final. The current Arbiter Prime, or head of the committee, is Belles'star from the Masociam Region. Other members of the committee include Counselor Hej Orien, Grand Marshal Heden Del Krung, and Lady Berla Fearidth of Aybrok, the Queen of Henz.
The Sunder: Though the discovery and subsequent use of the UDE-1 occurred ages ago, it was only just recently discovered that it is in fact one of at least two different known variants of galactic energy. This discovery was brought on by the invasion of an unknown race of beings known as The Sunder, who have mastered the use of their own form of UDE-1 energy, often referred to in the galaxy as the Bright, or UDE-2, to traverse great distances in relatively short time. For countless numbers of years, they have been hopping from galaxy to galaxy, punishing those who they consider to be misusing the gift they believe is reserved for their own species.
They are said to have originated from the “Other Side” altogether, having broken free to assert their will on trillions of different living beings. Because so much is still yet unknown about them, they have quite easily taken over large parts of the uncharted regions of the galaxy. Amassing large fleets of hellish looking warships in what will soon be a large-scale attack on the Assemblage.
The Sunder are hulking beasts of pure muscle, augmented by their own bright version of UDE power. They are visually striking in both size and appearance, highlighted by their bright white skin and almost translucent features. Though, it is unknown if in fact all their kind looks this way, as only their warriors, generals, and clerics have been spotted on battlefields in the small skirmishes that have taken place since they arrived.
All attempts at conversing with them have led to nothing but aggressive counterattacks. There is hope, however, that they will move on and leave the core systems alone if their current trajectory continues.
The Kovik Myriad: The Myriad species comes from the Kovik regions of the galaxy and have long been opposed to the use of any form of UDE-1 related technology unless it directly benefits their own advancements. They engaged in a galactic scale war with The Assemblage for decades before finally surrendering and being banished to their own home systems.
They are still proponents of the use of elder-tech and produce most of it in the form of spacecraft, weapons, and other such technology that has otherwise been replaced by the UDE-1 elsewhere. Because of the Treaty of Venth’s outlawing of UDE-1-tech being used as weaponry, most legal and illegal arms and armor come out of the Kovik Region in the form of elder-tech.
Some have speculated that the leaders among the Myriad sympathize with the Sunder’s invasion, either out of a thirst for revenge towards the Assemblage, or the Sunder’s ideology of misuse of the UDE-1. Regardless, The Sunder has in fact taken control of many systems in and around Kovik space, so it’s unlikely that the Myriad see them as a potential ally, but rather that they are doing what they can to avoid being bigger targets.
The Myriad are easily identified by their gloomy and dusky over-all appearances. They live rough lives with ancient technology, and it shows when compared to the more advanced species in the galaxy. It’s often said that you’re more likely to encounter a male Avorundi than a cheerful member of the Myriad.
Avorundi: Hailing from the planet Avorund, deep in Assemblage territories, the Avorundi are a species of bird-like humanoids consisting of only a female sex. While mostly resembling humans, they differ in that they have more elongated and slender bodies and faces, grayish skin highlighted with blues, purples, and pinks, and fine feathers in place of hair. They reproduce by fertilizing their eggs from males of other species, which has caused them to gain the reputation of being overly sexual and flirtatious in order to ensure the continuation of their species. However, the reality is that they are often cunning, charismatic, and determined, which naturally attracts others to them.
The Avorundi have shown an unusually high receptiveness to UDE-1, with many of the Controllers from the Order of Ascendancy coming from Avorund. Other than Galaxy Standard, they make up the next largest group of UDE-1 Controllers.
Galaxy Standard: This can refer to both the species, as well as language, that is most common throughout the galaxy.
Phonetic Replicator: This device is used to gather and translate all known types of spoken language throughout the many varied species in the galaxy to a set standard language. As per a ruling from the Prime Committee, it is a requirement that all sentient peoples are fitted with a Phonetic Replicator at birth. This allows for a free-flowing ability to share and spread information, knowledge, arts, music, etc.
Resonator Harness: Though UDE-1 sensitive users have the rare ability to “reactivate” dormant UDE-1 power, they require a Resonator Harness in order to manipulate it to their advantage in as safe a way possible. Each member of the Order of Ascendancy will be found to have one, and their ability to control the UDE-1 is often relegated to having it on. As it was discovered that too much raw UDE-1 use was damaging and dangerous to the user, the ability to naturally control it became something that was not taught to younger students to avoid the potential corruption.
Mur-Co: The primary, and largest, supplier of dormant UDE-1 energy to the galaxy. They hold a large swath of space that they use to harvest the power and send it through lines to the many different systems in need. They are the largest privately owned company in the galaxy and have their hands in just about every form of business and government. They have been attempting to gain a spot in the Prime Committee for decades, now attempting to use the looming invasion as reason enough to be included.
Kingdom of Henz: One of the oldest known civilizations in the galaxy, the long lasting monarchy reigns over a cluster of stars just outside of the Assemblage space. Staunch supporters of the galactic law, they still hold on to what they see as an independence with a border that requires permission to pass through. Their own Queen resides on the Prime Committee. A large cluster of UDE-1 can be found in their territory, which allows them to keep their semblance of power among the other systems of the Assemblage, as they are not reliant on Mur-Co to survive.
Biodrone Sector: Toxic wasteland of systems that are notorious for housing many of the most powerful criminal organizations in the galaxy. It's said that no good intentions enter or leave Biodrone space.
Hop-Shell Racing: The most popular form of entertainment throughout the galaxy. High intensity races through dangerous courses.
